Jacob's Well began as a borrowed dream from the heart of God given to J and Kenda in 1998. From that time until the Fall of 2000 we looked for timing and opportunity to begin to express faith and church and life together and God in new ways. After spending some time with some leaders who were moving in these directions, the time seemed right to begin. After a year of more conversation, reading, and road-tripping Jacob's Well (version 1.0) was born in the gym of CHBC in Oklahoma City. Our first steps together were a series of thinking and rethinking about what worship could look like and where God was taking us together. After a couple of months, it became clear that God was moving us in new directions. As the initial leadership began to scatter to the ends of the earth (literally), J and Kenda felt like the time had come to move for Jacob's Well to move from being a part of a church to becoming a church. In December of 2001, they resigned from CHBC and began looking ahead. February 9, 2002 Jacob's Well (version 2.0) met for the first time at Old Judge Coffee in Oklahoma City. A week later a group began meeting at the Black Owl Cafe in Norman as well. For a variety of reasons, it became clear quickly that we needed a place of our own and in May of that year we moved into our home - The Well - at 219 W. Main in Norman. After a summer of renovation, we opened the art house in August and we began gathering weekly for worship on September 8. Since those early days, we have continued to journey together and explore lots of ideas about the Church, worship, life together, mission, and more. We have worked together, played together, worshipped together, wrestled together, prayed together, rejoiced together, repented together, and more. Jacob's Well is not about a place or a meeting, it is a group of people who are pursuing life with God and life together. The life of our community changed dramatically in 2006 when God led us to let go of our building in Norman. We packed up and gave away and moved our Sunday night gatherings to a home in South OKC. The move has allowed us to continue to experience life and conversation and worship and faith together and has freed us to be very active in giving away what God has given us. We started as a borrowed dream from the heart of God. That dream continues to unfold in front of us as we journey together. As we look ahead to the next steps of our road, we find ourselves excited and expectant that the God who has been so faithful to guide us and provide for us in days past will continue to demonstrate Himself to us in the days ahead. The journey continues . . . won't you join us?
